Daffodils at the old Nurseries
This field is situated in Ashleyhay above the Ecclesbourne Valley in Derbyshire. The couple who live in the 16th century house there, say it was one of the oldest nurseries.
Although no longer used as a nursery, fortunately they have left all the daffodils undisturbed to grow freely and they have kindly allowed me to paint there many times over the past 15 to 20 years, often with my son Mark.
The daffodils have spread across the field over the years and are a beautiful sight in the spring. They give the paintings a very colourful foreground with the valley and surrounding countryside providing the distant views. The many fruit trees there are also amazing when they are in blossom
I am always inspired to paint when I sit among the daffodils and usually manage to find a new angle or viewpoint to start a painting. All the paintings I have done there over the years have all been painted on location, as it''s the only way to capture the vibrant colours.
