Art by Helen TABOR Modern Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Born in Middlesex in 1960, Helen Tabor now lives and works in the Scottish Borders. She studied English and History at York university and spent a number of years teaching in the Himalayas before settling in Scotland in 1995. All of Helen Tabors work is in oil and on canvas or board. She normally starts with a background of collage, which creates a textured, patterned effect on which she can build her painting. Using a collage base gives the painting depth and takes Helen in interesting directions, so that the painting is, to some extent, led by the interaction between the paint and what lies beneath. Helen often works with large brushes, initially applying paint boldly and then refining the image as she develops the painting. Helen Tabors inspiration comes from many sources, among them the great Scottish painters of the last century, William McTaggart, Joan Eardley, Anne Redpath, William Gillies and John Maxwell; music, my family, the surrounding hills, fields and shores of southern Scotland and Picasso. Her subject matter may be landscape, seascape, still life or figures although her main interests are in the properties of colour, the effects created by the movement of the paint and in the mood she creates in her painting. In addition to Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery Helen Tabor art work has been exhibited at other leading Scottish Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag Gallery is sourced from the Helen Tabor artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide. This is the Seascape art page from Red Rag Modern Art Gallery featuring the best in contemporary Modern art. Throughout the year Red Rag features Modern art from artists who specialise in creating fine Seascape paintings. Today is no exception you will find Red Rag Modern Art Gallery has an extensive collection of Seascape art and paintings by leading contemporary artists. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to Modern artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of Modern painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the Modern artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture.
