The son of two artists, David Gleeson followed suit and nurtured his creative talent early on. He attended Rochdale College of Art before studying Visual Art at Aberystwyth University and painting at Wolverhampton University.
Predominantly known for his work in Still Life, over the last 30 years Gleeson has managed to breathe new life into one of the principal genres of Western art. Setting himself apart from other still life artists with his use of unconventional colours, quirky compositions and overall minimalist feel, Gleeson exhibits his skill and ability to capture highly detailed and realistic subject matter, reminiscent of old masters like Caravaggio, but with a fresh contemporary take.
With around 30 prizes and awards under his belt and boasting exhibitions at the National Portrait and Mall Galleries, Gleeson is no novice when it comes to accepting acclaim for his work; most recently having received recognition for his painting in watercolour which saw him elected as a member of the Royal Institute of Painters.
