Seascape Art by Terence CLARKE Modern Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Born in Manchester in 1953 Terence Clarke grew up in the Ribble Valley. Educated at St. Marys College he went on to do a degree in Fine Art and then a Masters degree in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London in 1979. Upon graduation Terence began exhibiting and selling his paintings firstly at Paton Galleries London and then through a variety of art galleries in the U.K. His work is in some important collections including The Contemporary Art Society, Dudley Museum and Art Gallery and the Royal College of Art archive collection. His work is also in many private art collections in the UK, Holland, France and America. Terence Clarke's work is focused on the use of vibrant and intense colour. His themes range from Mediterranean landscapes, to still lifes and the occasional figure and portrait pieces. His paintings are carefully structured using a confident skilful and strong drawing whilst the paint is applied generously in rich bold strokes. He says In a sense I am a painter of light. I use colour as a way of emphasising the drama of light. Vivid colour is a metaphor for light itself and often this sense of light is the underlying subject of my paintings. I like my paintings to be painterly so that although the image is clear and readable the paint itself has a rich and sensuous life of its own letting the viewer enjoy the way the paint works His paintings continue to be popular with collectors of contemporary art. Modest in scale but technically complex his work seeks to refresh our vision and make us look again at light and the extra-ordinary quality of the visual world. This is the Seascape art page from Red Rag Modern Art Gallery featuring the best in contemporary Modern art. Throughout the year Red Rag features Modern art from artists who specialise in creating fine Seascape paintings. Today is no exception you will find Red Rag Modern Art Gallery has an extensive collection of Seascape art and paintings by leading contemporary artists. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to Modern artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of Modern painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the Modern artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture.
